Collections
The main purpose of the Library's stock of books and journals is to
provide a library service for students and researchers within the many
subject areas that are researched and taught in at the University of
Southern Denmark. Literature within almost all subject areas is
purchased, however.
The Library in Odense includes many special collections and a great
deal of older literature.
Availability
A large proportion of the library's stock of books and journals is
directly accessible from open stacks, so it is possible to fetch
requested items oneself. (Bibliographies, reference works, handbooks and
certain journals, however, are only for use on the premises).
Searching
Assistance and services in the use of the complete holdings of SDUB is
given
- see collections. Via the
Library's online catalogue ODIN, books
can be searched for and requested for loan - see Library
rules. A number of computers with access to the Internet are
available for searching in ODIN,
other libraries' catalogues, databases, journals, etc. There is also a
plentiful collection of handbooks, bibliographies and other reference
books at the Library.
Facilities
A number of self-service photocopying machines are spread around in the
Library.
A large number of reading desks are available between the open stacks
either for individual reading or for studying in groups.
There is a reading room with reading desks in quiet surroundings.
There are also supervised reading desks, where material which is only
for use in the reading room can be used. The reading room opens at 8.15
and closes at the same time as the rest of the Library.
